Nesting Raft

You will be very pleased to hear that the floating tern platform was the most successful nesting site this year.  It has been a extremely difficult year for common tern with high egg failure or chick mortality due to some nasty weather.  We made several abortive trips out to ring chicks only to find that they had perished. However, late in the season we managed to ring 4 chicks on the Coneries platform- perhaps sheltered from the raw conditions by the solid sides.”

“Today’s highly successful launch of the Great Crested Grebes rafts on Talybont reservoir. I would particularly like to thank the: staff of Aquatic Engineering, Rangers of DCWW, volunteers from Friends of Talybont Reservoir, and Ben who joined us at 1/2 hour’s notice! Both rafts are at the southern end, approximately in line with the ‘older’ bird hide.

The Grebes were already showing their appreciation as we left!”
